If you’ve been looking for a movie to watch this weekend, Dangal is a perfect choice. It has all the ingredients of a typical Bollywood film, where family is central and triumph over adversity is the theme. This movie tells the story of Mahavir Singh Phogat who is determined that his daughters will wrestle at international competitions. He coaches them in secret because he will only be able to do so when they become adults and win an Olympic medal in wrestling. The film follows his two daughters Geeta and Babita with their coach from childhood to adulthood as they fight the odds to fulfill their father’s dream of becoming world champions with sponsorship from Nike. The movie's plot is quite simple and does not require much elaboration. It follows the life of two sisters who trained at home to be athletes, with their father as their coach. The concept of this movie is so simple but very hard to pull off. Therefore, it has become a hit among the viewers. As expected, this movie was extremely well received by the audience and critics alike. The debutant director Nitesh Tiwari has done an excellent job for this film. He captures the audience’s attention throughout the film with various emotions which include excitement, courage and determination. This movie stands out because the director has not glorified it by using unnecessary shooting and special effects. He is successful in maintaining a light and heartwarming tone throughout the film. The performance of the main characters like Aamir Khan, Fatima Sana Shaikh and Sanya Malhotra is excellent. The three of them have portrayed their roles very well; their most notable performances were during the wrestling scenes. The children who played Geeta and Babita (Zaira Wasim and Suhani Bhatnagar) left a mark on audience’s mind for sure with their brilliant performances that easily commanded attention from audience. This movie was not a hit when it released in China, but thanks to the tremendous efforts of its director and cast members, this film gained a lot of popularity and became a blockbuster. Aamir khan’s tremendous effort in promoting the film by going on a wrestling event has paid off because this movie is making huge money in China. India-China co-production Dangal is about to enter the 400 crore club in India and is all set to become 2016’s biggest hit at the domestic box office. The film recorded an impressive collection of Rs 33.18 crore on its second Monday taking its 10-day total domestic collection to Rs 383.92 crore nett. The film has beaten the records of Bajrangi Bhaijaan, which made Rs 380.08 crore in 2015. It also beat the lifetime record of Aamir Khan’s Dangal, which held the record for 10 days at Rs 382.6 crore netted by it in 2015.
